Wellfleet calls itself the art gallery town and in fact there are over 30 galleries, many of which have "openings" on Saturday evening to meet the artists and share a glass of wine while browsing.
Wellfleet has a variety of shopping from the galleries to fine arts, jewelry, pottery and clothing of all sorts.
Because much of our town is in the National Seashore we have many walks, self guided or guided, and activities. We also have an Audubon bird sanctuary, with walk, programs and activities.
The Cape Cod rail trail passes through Wellfleet and bikes can be rented for riding the trail. There is also an excellent bike trail in Provincetown, 12 miles way. We also have many miles of "back roads", perfect for riding and enjoying our ponds, forests and beaches.
Wellfleet has one of the few remaining drive in movie theaters with current movies. The drive in space doubles as a flea market several days per week. There are also four indoor theaters on site. We also have a new cultural center in a renovated historic building in the center of town where such activities as rumba, a farmers market and live performances are held. We have Wellfleet Actors Theatre, The Harbor Stage company, and free Shakespeare two evenings per week.
Our library has many guest speakers and performers and a huge book sale two times each summer.
The restaurants...many, varied, all featuring seafood, seating inside, seating outside. We have a recent french restaurant and bakery that people travel from all over the Cape to dine at!
We are close to Provincetown with its whale watching boats, shopping, colorful parades and special weeks, ferry to Boston, dune tours, lighthouses, bike trail and more National Seashore lands and activities.
There is also relaxing with a book on your private deck overlooking Wellfleet Bay, enjoying the sea breezes and fragrances of the flowers from the garden.
