Nestled on the stunning marsh of a private Wellfleet beach, Aunt Sukie's Bed and Breakfast (525 Chequesset Neck Rd., Wellfleet, 508/349-2804, www.auntsukies.com) is a peaceful and friendly place to stay with antique-filled rooms (some with fireplaces and water views) and first-rate home-made continental breakfasts every morning.

"Hosts Sue and Dan Hamar treat you like you're actual guests in their home, a part-contemporary, partantique inn with three rooms and multiple decks. It's set on the marsh grass fronting Wellfleet Harbor and Cape Cod Bay, along a quiet residential stretch of road near Power's Landing. The birds, the water, and the stunning bay views will probably be enough to keep you content in the shade of trees with a pair of binoculars. Rooms are welcoming, with flowered quilts and private decks, and the two upstairs beds grant vistas of the water without a lift of the head. The room in the antique portion of the home has a gas fireplace, a brick patio, and a grand claw-foot tub. The owners also have a full house for rent about a mile away; it comfortably accommodates two couples or a family of four and is rented weekly from May through October."

"Sue and Dan Hamar's house is perched on a bluff in an exclusive residential neighborhood overlooking Cape Cod Bay. Behind the house, a boardwalk path leads to a private bay beach. They also own, a two-bedroom cottage located about a mile away in the pines that is available by the week and offers, among other features, a galley kitchen, washer/dryer, and barbecue. The main house was built in 1830 but has been modernized and added on to over the years. The Nickerson Suite is in the old part of the house and has wide-board wood floors and a fireplace. The Chequessett and Billingsgate rooms are contemporary, as befits the addition completed in 1993. All rooms have sweeping bay views. There are beautiful gardens in front of the house, and in the back is a large deck where guests eat breakfast and can sunbathe during the day."

Cape Cod Travel Guide
"Aunt Sukie is no longer with us, but her fine antique home is still the prettiest spot along the Wellfleet Bay shoreline. Actually, the home, built in 1830, was moved to this site in 1929, but seems to have settled in rather well. Aunt Sukie's Bayside B&B offers three stunning guest rooms, one a warm first-floor room in dark woods and antiques; the other two, on the second floor, have a contemporary cottage look, with light walls, bright linens, and bathroom skylights. These would be the rooms to rent for the best views; each has an ultra-private deck from which one may gain wide views over the marsh to the inn's private beach at the end of a boardwalk, constructed by innkeepers Sue and Dan Hamar (Sue is a relative of Aunt Sukie). The common sitting room's views are also stunning, and don't miss a stroll on a tiny brick path through Sue's outstanding garden at the front of the house. All guestrooms have a phone and small fridge, but no TV. Overflow guests can be accommodated at the inn's House in the Woods, about a mile away."

"A picture-perfect location (with lots of windows) for watching the sunset. Better yet, walk across the boardwalk to a private beach. A suite occupies the original 1830 house, while two other rooms are contemporary."

"Hidden by a fence from a road less traveled, this beachfront B&B is full of picture windows facing the bayside setting sun. It takes just 30 seconds to walk from the shingled house, with a contemporary addition, across a boardwalk marsh to their private bay beach, with shallow waters warmed by the tide. Sue and Dan Hamar have lived here since 1984 but have been taking in guests only since 1994. The suite, with a separate sitting room in the original 1830 section of the house, features a fireplace, wide pine floors, Oriental carpets, and its own private patio. One of the three rooms can accommodate children over 8 years old. Two of the contemporary rooms boast private decks and splendid bay views. They face the setting sun. The common room is dotted with antiques and overflowing with 'Aunt Sukie's' history. Expanded continental breakfast on the bayside deck, weather permitting. On my last visit Dan served homemade bread with his son's beach plum jam made from bushes on the premises. Inquire about the nearby three-bedroom house, perfect for families."

"This is a real find--excellent location, tasteful (eclectic, mostly contemporary) rooms, and privacy. From the decks and balconies, you look over the tidal flats to the bay and Great Island. A boardwalk takes you down to a private sandy beach. Each unit has a private bath and a queen-size bed; two guest rooms have balconies. There's a ground floor suite."

"Though she was never officially a blood relative of innkeepers Sue and Dan Hamar, her essence and namesake are duly honored at Aunt Sukie's Bayside B&B (349-2804), a part antique, part contemporary homestead that stands proudly over some of Wellfleet's most stunning waterviews. one guest room of the three-room B&B is part of the original home of Aunt Sukie, moved from Truro; its antiquity is attested to by its wide pine floors, working fireplace and claw-footed bathtub. The two 'contemporary' rooms are just that--later additions affording uninterrupted views of nearby Great Island, Wellfleet and distant Orleans from their generous windows and private balconies. Each guest room has its own private bath and entrance, queen-sized bed, small refrigerator and telephone. Walk to the activities of Wellfleet Harbor, discover the many miles of trails on Great Island, or simply contemplate the tides from the comfort of a courtesy beach chair on the B&B's private beach. Open year-round, tariffs ... include a homemade continental-plus breakfast with the genuine kind of hospitality that would make dear-departed Aunt Sukie proud."
